Frequently Asked Questions

For help with blocking numbers, using the widget and other app features please see our Support page.
Q: Will this app block SMS and/or MMS messages?
A: Yes, this app is capable of blocking both SMS (Short Message Service) and MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) messages.
Q: Where did the old UI go?
A: The original preferences regarding what numbers to block have been moved to the "Filters" section.
Q: How do I remove someone from the block list?
A: Tap the number and select Delete from the context menu.
Q: How do I edit a number on the block list?
A: Tap the number and select Edit from the context menu.
Q: Can I block ranges of numbers?
A: Yes. You can add a number manually to the block list using the * wildcard, for example 800* will block all 800 numbers. Keep in mind that the app has an area code database that may work better for blocking ranges of numbers.
Q: Why is the Turn off Screen option disabled?
A: This is under development and in the testing phase, I wanted to show a preview of what is on the horizion.
Q: My download failed, or I un-installed the app, can you send me a new copy?
A: Your purchase includes unlimited downloads. Please go to the market and search for "Advanced Call Blocker" to download a new copy. This will allow you to receive future updates that are sent through the market.
Q: What does "Silent" do?
A: Silent will stop both the ringer from making noise and stop the phone from vibrating (if on). The call will remain on your phone's display until the caller is automatically sent to voicemail after a certain amount of time.
Q: What versions of Android does this work for?
A: Advanced Call Blocker 2.1.* works for Android 2.1, 2.2 and 2.2.1. Advanced Call Blocker 1.5.* works for Android 1.5 and 1.6
Q: Does this work for Gingerbread 2.3?
A: Yes. The only option that does not work on 2.3+ systems is "Clear Missed Call Notice".
Q: How do I check what version of Android is on my phone?
A: Open the app panel. Locate and click on Settings. Scroll to the bottom and click on About phone. From here find the Android version list item.
Q: I bought Advanced call Blocker 1.5.* and my firmware was just upgraded, will the app still work?
A: It is recommended that you upgrade the app. Please visit our upgrade page for additional information.
Q: What is the difference between the two versions?
A: ACB 1.5/1.6 was recently upgraded to version 2.1.16, which is (almost) the same as ACB 2.1.18. Advanced Call Blocked Legacy is upgraded less frequently.
Q: Are there any phones this app does not work for?
A: Currently, the only known phone the app does not work for is the Motorola Devour, sorry. Answer and End Call and Send to Voicemail don't work on LG Optimus S.
Q: Can I close/exit the app? Will a task killer kill the app?
A: The app can be closed and it will still be able to block calls, even if a task killer kills the app. It uses a service to block calls which is separate from the preferences app.
Q: Why does the app need the CALL_PHONE, SEND_SMS... permission?
A: It requires the CALL_PHONE permission to use the android telephony. This application will not make phone calls. Having said that, when the app answers and ends a call, it's the same as if you answered and ended the call. You may incurr charges, which is why the app states "Services that cost you money" when you accept the permissions.
Q: Is it normal for my phone to ring and/or vibrate briefly?
A: On some phones it may ring or vibrate briefly - turning on "Silence First Ring" can help or completely solve this problem. Keep in mind - the newer, faster and better maintained your phone is - the better this and all apps will work.
Q: How many numbers can I block?
A: As many as you want, there is no limit!
Q: Is there a monthly fee?
A: No, it is a one time fee.
Q: Do you plan on making updates?
A: Yes, please e-mail suggestions, bugs etc. to wahooka@lucidsolutions.info
